Brazos County will be redesigning its public website and is seeking photographs for use on the new site. We are asking for citizens to submit royalty-free photographs representing Brazos County to be used in the banner, background, and slideshows on the new website. They can represent anything from nature scenes, historic landmarks, events or festivals, business or educational landmarks, and images relating to tourism.
The process and rules for submitting photos can be viewed on the Brazos County’s ‘Flickr Group’ at http://www.flickr.com/groups/brazoscountyphotos/. Joining is free, and photos can be easily uploaded to this central location.
Brazos County reserves the right to choose NOT to utilize any submitted photograph at its sole discretion.
The deadline for the submission of photos is February 3rd.
There is no Burn Ban for Brazos County at this time.

Due to the ongoing courthouse reconstruction, the location where grand Juries convene and deliberate has been changed. The public order designating the new location can be viewed here.
The FCC and the US Department of Homeland Security will be conducting the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System at 1pm CST on November 9, 2011. The test will look and sound very similar to the local tests of the Emergency Alert System that occur frequently on radio and television. This test, though, will occur simultaneously across the U.S. and its territories and will last approximately 30 seconds, after which normal programming will resume.

On 20 September, 2011, the Brazos County Commissioners Court approved a resolution levying a tax rate for the County of Brazos for the 2011 tax year. The resolution is available for viewing at this link.
Brazos County conducted public hearings on 06 and 13 September on a proposal to increase the total tax revenues by 3.03%. Commissioners Court is scheduled to vote on the tax rate on 20 September, 2011. Read the Full Notice for details on the total tax revenue proposed to be raised this year.
The Public Hearing on the Brazos County budget for fiscal year ending September 30, 2012 will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. Commissioners Court will take final action on the adoption of the proposed budget at the regular meeting held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. For more details, please read the Notice of Public Hearing on Budget. Brazos County will hold two public hearings on a proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year by 3.03%. The public hearings will be held in the Commissioners Courtroom on Sept. 6 at 4:45 PM and Sept. 13 at 4:45 PM. Please see the full Notice for more details. Updated 01 July 2011 - With no immediate relief forecast, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is soliciting help from Brazos County Officials in disseminating appropriate drought information to affected parties in the Brazos River basin communities. In order to provide timely and accurate information, the TCEQ has established a drought webpage. In addition to providing additional information, the site also addresses questions and concerns. The drought web page is located at http://www.tceq.texas.gov/agency/drought.html. The TCEQ has also activated the TCEQ Drought Hotline, at 1-800-447-2827. The TCEQ Water Rights diversion suspension letters may also be viewed here.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has designated 213 Texas counties for agriculture assistance related to drought, excessive heat, high winds and wildfires. The 213 counties along with their contiguous counties, enables operators in all 254 counties in the State of Texas to file for agriculture assistance.

Due to drought conditions, County Judge Duane Peters has implemented a Declaration of Local Disaster for Brazos County effective June 23rd, prohibiting the sale and use of all fireworks. The order may be viewed by clicking on this link.
On 07 June 2011, the Commissioners Court approved an Order prohibiting the sale or use of fireworks classified under 49 C.F.R. part. 173.100(r)(2) (10-1- 86 edition), as "skyrockets with sticks" and "missiles with fins" in any portion of the unincorporated areas of Brazos County. The Brazos Valley HOME Consortium provides funding for down payment assistance, home rehabilitation and affordable new home construction for low and moderate income citizens. The HOME Consortium invites the public to review their proposed 2010 Annual Plan and 5-Year Consolidation Plan for a 30-day period beginning 7/20/10. FEMA has officially revised the current Flood Insurance Rate Maps to show changes to floodplains, floodways, and flood elevation in Brazos County. Building permits and floodplain information has some information. However, Brazos County has worked with the Cities of College Station and Bryan concerning the new maps; please see Bryan/College Station/Brazos County Flood Map Modernization for full details.
